The Holdings page

Holdings is the consolidated view: every position across All accounts or a saved group, in one table. It is read-only. Every edit, from adding a transaction to updating a statement, happens inside the account that holds the position: a row's held in disclosure links straight to that account's own Positions tab and, for one security, its scoped register.

Reading the numbers

Market Value is the table's own total. The rows below add up to it, whatever the selection. The rest of the strip is ledger accounting: cost basis, unrealized and realized gains (average cost; a broker reporting specific lots will differ), and income. Income counts cash actually received, including cash dividends and interest. A reinvested dividend adds shares (and basis) instead, so it appears in the position, not the income line.

Those four need a transaction ledger to exist at all, so where the whole selection has none, every account in view is statement-tracked, or none has been imported yet, they show an unavailable marker and explain why, rather than a $0 that would read as "you made nothing". A mixed selection states how much of the value on screen they don't cover.

A ⚠ next to a price means it's stale; a highlighted row means the ledger produces a negative share balance. Negative shares get a banner naming the affected tickers. They almost always mean a position predates the imported history: the fix lives on that position's own account, its Import CSV dialog, accepting the suggested opening balances, or its Positions tab's Reconcile.

A security you sold in full is a closed position, not a discrepancy: it has no row here, or on the account's Positions tab, because it holds nothing and adds nothing to any total. Its history is still in the account's register, under that security in the Security filter, and its realized gain is on the account's Performance tab.

Individual stocks

Expanding an individual stock's row shows a stats strip: sector and industry, market cap, P/E, dividend yield and rate, beta, the 52-week range, and the next earnings date when one is known. Funds don't get one because none of those figures is a fund concept.

Every number there is a snapshot from the last profile fetch, not a quote, and the strip is stamped with the date it was fetched; a stock that's never had a profile downloaded says so instead. A blank field means Yahoo returned nothing for that field, which is a different statement from zero. The Overview's Stock Monitor reads the same stored stats.

What moved into the account

Adding a transaction, reconciling shares, updating a statement, and a position's own cash and transaction history now live in the owning account's workspace: open it from a row's "held in" link or from Accounts. Holdings keeps the aggregate job: cost basis, gains, income, and allocation across the whole selection, plus Income & Realized Gains, described below, for the group as a whole.

Income & Realized Gains

This panel answers two questions at once: what each holding paid you, and what you realized selling it. It never shows unless the selection has at least one distribution or one sale to show; the strip above already covers unrealized gain.

By calendar year totals every year's Income and Realized Gain (a year's Total added on top). By holding breaks the same two figures out by ticker, over a period you choose beside its own heading: Year to date, 1 year (the default), 3 years, or All. Its heading carries the period's own three totals. Income is cash you were actually paid in the window, dividends, interest and fund capital-gain distributions, reversals netted against it; a reinvested distribution buys shares instead, so it shows up in the position, not here. Realized gain is the profit or loss on shares you sold in the window, at average cost, the same figure cost basis uses everywhere else. Total is the two added together and is exactly that: income plus realized gain, not a return, since unrealized gain stays on the strip above and on Positions.

A security you sold out of completely still appears here for any period its sale falls in, even though it carries no row on the table above or on the account's own Positions tab: this is where a closed position's realized gain becomes findable again. Every column in the By holding table, Ticker, Income, Realized gain and Total, is a sortable heading: click once to sort by it, again to reverse, with an empty cell sorting last either way. Total sorts descending by default.

This replaces the panel's old trailing-twelve-month-only, yield-based view: Yield on Value, cash received divided by today's value, is retired, because it misread any position that changed size during the year and any one-off distribution. An individual stock's own stated dividend yield is already on its stats strip, above, when you expand it.

Holdings shows this table for the whole selection, All accounts or a saved group. An individual account's own copy lives on that account's Performance tab; there, and only there, a taxable account also splits Realized gain into Short-term and Long-term.
