Accounts is the editable home for each account's institution, type, legal registration, starting boundary, current cash handling, and target/reference models. Each row is one account and one value stream, including a Joint Brokerage linked to both real people in Household profile.
Add an account
Add account opens the same stable Account → Starting data → Review
workflow used by guided setup. Review is the first save. The four starting
routes cover complete history from an explicit $0, an opening statement
before newer transactions, dated periodic snapshots (including an observed
all-zero snapshot), and an empty account to finish later. See
Guided setup for the step-by-step contract.
Custom institution names become available to future account forms, but only Fidelity and Schwab names carry CSV parser capability. A name never creates a broker connection.
Open an account
Clicking an account's name, here or on Overview, opens its workspace: a header of plain facts, then Transactions · Positions · Performance · Account details (Statements instead of Transactions on a snapshot-tracked account). A ledger account's full chronological register lives on its Transactions tab; the All accounts list stays the place to add an account, compare rows, and reach the tools below.
Edit registration and cash history
Edit opens the account's own Account details tab inside its workspace, keeping Ownership and Current cash handling visible there. Joint is valid only for Brokerage and links both current Household profile people. Individual ownership filters exclude Joint; the Joint filter that names you and your spouse is its own exact filter.
Correcting the current cash answer preserves its recorded start. Add change records a real dated transition, while the collapsed Cash vehicle history shows earlier periods and their provenance. These edits change how RangefinderInvest groups core cash; they do not create a brokerage transaction.
Per-account tools
Transaction-tracked accounts expose one Import drawer: choosing a broker CSV sits at the top, and Previous imports (each run with its own Undo and shared-rows disclosure) sits beneath it. Statement-tracked accounts expose Update snapshot and a one-way upgrade to transaction tracking; the latest snapshot becomes the opening observation, together with any share split since, so later rows cannot double-count it. A snapshot is dated on or before today, never ahead of it, and an account keeps ONE source: Edit will not switch tracking mode while the other source still holds rows. Reconcile opens the one manual sheet described in Settling a reconcile difference: a transaction-tracked account reaches it from the register's toolbar or the Positions panel's own Reconcile button, a statement-tracked account from the Statements toolbar's Reconcile holdings, and either way it checks every computed share count, and cash, against what you type.
Import review is decision-first. A detected old-to-new core-fund transfer must be confirmed or rejected; a conflict with setup requires an explicit current answer; and broker cash states are Cash reconciled, a visible mismatch with Import with warning, or no checkpoint. Original ticker rows stay in Account History even when a confirmed pair becomes zero-value internal movement. See Import a broker CSV.
All three sit beside the register's Add transaction, one form for every activity, deposits, withdrawals, interest and opening cash included, so there is no separate cash-entry action. The native File → Import Broker CSV… menu item opens straight into whichever ledger account's workspace is on screen, or here when none is.
Account groups define reusable filters for Overview, Holdings, and Rebalance Planner. Rebalance and Withdrawals flags remain account-level facts; ownership never splits holdings or trades.
Deleting an account deletes its transactions with it and cannot be undone. Export or back up first if in doubt.
